Trusted by companies of all sizes

3M increases efficiency and cost savings

"Azure SQL Edge is a great bridge between traditional processes and the newest AI and compute features in the cloud. This is the type of solution that will drive us towards Industry 4.0."

Mike Gerlach, Manufacturing Technology Manager, 3M

Fugro generates insights faster

"Traditionally, it took two weeks to prep each client's monthly data, to verify the report, and for the client to receive it. Now we deliver the first draft of that report in eight minutes."

Richard Corless, Lead Cloud Architect, Fugro

ZEISS sharpens its focus

"Before edge computing, by the time cloud analysis noted a problem, we had lost response time and sometimes wasted product. With SQL Edge, we reduce both our reaction time and the number of cycles needed."

Jochen Scheuerer, Head of Connected Smart Factory Carl Zeiss AG

Achilles employees stay connected

"Azure SQL Edge was my first choice to provide the reliability, resiliency, and local redundancy we needed. It's everything we asked for, and it works beautifully, every time."

Conduct real-time scoring at the edge with built-in AI

Detect anomalies and apply business logic at the edge using the built-in machine learning capabilities. Choose from popular machine learning languages and convert them using the Open Neural Network Exchange (ONNX) to process time-series, graph, and other types of data. Deploy your cloud-trained models onto edge servers, gateways, and devices to perform real-time analytics on streaming data.

Store and analyze time-series data

Stream, store, and analyze time-series data using a solution that’s optimized for edge workloads such as IoT. Analyze data while it’s being streamed using time-windowing, aggregation, and filtering capabilities, and achieve deeper insights by combining different data types such as time series and graphs.

Use your choice of platform online or offline

Run Azure SQL Edge in connected, disconnected, or hybrid environments. Expand device architecture coverage to include ARM-based and x64-based architecture. Choose either Windows or Linux as the operating system, and use Kubernetes to orchestrate your device infrastructure for better efficiency and automation.

Get unparalleled performance and security at the edge

Use the same high-performing, secure engine as SQL Server and Azure SQL Database to meet the demands of edge computing. Get flexible high availability and disaster recovery using Kubernetes or other container orchestration, and help protect data on your edge devices using industry-leading security tools such as transparent data encryption, data masking, and Always Encrypted.

Enjoy turnkey management

Install and manage Azure SQL Edge on all your edge devices without a large team of database administrators. Create and deploy the container from a single management portal, and update the container and data schema based on your security-management and business needs.

Simplify your edge architecture

Use a single container for your local streaming, storage, and machine learning. Because the surface area is the same as SQL Database and SQL Server running on premises, Azure SQL Edge extends a consistent application development and management experience to the edge. Develop once and run your applications wherever you need them.

The advanced security of Azure SQL Edge

  • Data protection with transparent data encryption and Always Encrypted capabilities
  • Role-based access control (RBAC) and attribute-based access control (ABAC)
  • Compliance with security regulations using data classification

Frequently asked questions about Azure SQL Edge

  • Azure SQL Edge supports ARM64 and x64 devices running on Linux. Windows support is coming soon. If you’d like to use it on another platform or OS, send us your suggestions.
  • Yes, Azure SQL Edge supports an offline-only deployment model independent of Azure IoT Edge.
  • Use Azure Stream Analytics, an event-processing engine, to examine high volumes of streaming data. Incoming data can be from devices, sensors, websites, social media feeds, applications, or other sources. Stream Analytics also supports extracting information from data streams and identifying patterns and relationships.

Azure SQL Edge does all that and also includes the capabilities of SQL Database for storage, processing, and analysis of data at the edge. Use Azure SQL Edge in a disconnected, semi-connected, or rarely connected deployment where local storage and analytics are important.
